A box of genuinely good pens
Small, cheap, and quietly appreciated every day.
Why it fitsOften chosen for a pastor
Coffee from a local roaster
Better than supermarket coffee and supports somebody nearby.

A notebook worth writing in
Hardback, lies flat, good paper.
Why it fitsOften chosen for a pastor
A gift card for somewhere they actually eat
The local place, not the chain nobody goes to.
Why it fitsOften chosen for a pastor
A jar of notes about them
Fifty small folded reasons you are glad they exist.
Why it fitsAn idea to start from
A good gift for children to make for an adult, and the one most likely to be kept.
A board game the whole family can play
Something that works with five people and takes under an hour.
Why it fitsAn idea to start from
Check the player count before you buy. A brilliant two-player game is a sad gift for a family of six.
Cast iron skillet
Lasts a lifetime and gets better with use.
A twelve-inch pan is the most useful size. Pre-seasoned ones can be used the day they arrive.
Digital photo frame
Family photographs appear on it from anywhere, without them doing anything.
Best given already loaded with pictures. Set it up before you wrap it — that is most of the gift.
One photograph, properly framed
Costs very little and is kept for decades.
Why it fitsAn idea to start from
Choose a picture they are not expecting. The best ones are usually not the posed ones.
A letter to open next Christmas
Costs nothing. Frequently the gift people remember.
Write it properly, seal it, and put the date on the front. This works as well from a child as from an adult.

How this works
Every suggestion comes from a small, hand-written catalog of gift ideas, each tagged with who it suits, roughly what age, what interests it fits and what kind of gift it is. Nothing here is chosen by an algorithm trained on what sells.
Your budget is a hard limit. Everything else is a preference: telling us somebody likes fishing moves fishing gifts up the list, it does not delete everything else, because the best gift for a person is sometimes the useful thing that has nothing to do with their hobby.
We have not tested these products. There are no ratings, no review scores and no affiliate links. The notes say what kind of thing works for a particular person and what to watch out for — which is the question you actually have standing in a shop in December.
Still stuck?
The Christmas Ideas guides go further than a list — how to buy for a teenager who says they want nothing, what grandparents actually keep, and the three questions that find a good gift when you barely know somebody.
Shopping for a whole family?
Draw names, set a limit, and everyone buys one gift properly. It is free.
